Rossendale Produces the best Black Pudding and White Pudding in the Land.

Two Rossendale family businesses came up trumps in the National meat Products awards in Birmingham on the 18th of April.

The competition organised by The National Federation of Meat & Food Traders was held at Foodex exhibition in Birmingham, the event attracted 382 entries from butchers, farm shops and delis from all around Britain. Entries were evaluated for technical and taste qualities by seventeen judges across nineteen categories ranging from Sausages, Burgers , Pies, Ready Meals, Black Puddings and White puddings.

The Real Lancashire Black Pudding Co. and Mark Harrisons Butchers Rawtenstall  gained an incredible tally of awards, 7 Gold awards and 6 silver between them and both won the coveted ‘Best in Category’ (British Champions). Harrisons family butchers based on Bank street Rawtenstall entered 8 products winning 4 Gold awards and 4 Silver plus British Champions for their Traditional Irish White Pudding.

The Real Lancashire Black Pudding Co. entered 5 products and won 3 Gold awards and 2 silver plus British Champions for a festive black pudding cake with Pecans, mixed fruit, dates and mixed spices.

Rossendale is the home of many great food producers and family butchers. ‘Good butchers are the ones who survive as they are dedicated to their trade’ says Andy Holt a Butcher by trade and managing director of The Real Lancashire Black Pudding Co.  We are proud to be a part of our local food heritage. Mark Harrison said he was very pleased to have won his most recent awards but added that it was no easy feat preparing the products and transporting them to the show. ‘It was certainly worth the effort and we pulled out all the stops to make it happen’.
